"Mecklenburg Citizens for Public Education and The Levine Museum of the New South are sponsoring a talk and tour focusing on Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools' history and on how patterns of racial and economic separation evolved." This event will be held on Thursday, November 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
If you are like me and completely baffled about the turmoil in the CMS system--why busing? Why not busing? Why not neighborhood schools? What is a neighborhood? Why doesn't anyone from Myers Park High School (population 3,500!) want to attend East Meck?--this talk sounds like an excellent chance to learn about how Charlotte has ended up in this predicament. I plan to be there--join me!
To do: Registration for this CMS History Tour is required. Contact Rosalyn Allison Jacobs at rajacobs@mecked.org or 704-335-0100.
